HITACHI METRO WASHINGTON (MOCK-UP)

• 1:1 scale mock-up (interiors and exteriors);

GFG Rail developed a full-scale 1:1 mock-up of the Washington Metro 8000 series. The mock-up, spanning 26 meters in total length, was divided into two sections and entirely constructed in Torino before being shipped to Washington for the public unveiling in March 2024.

The mock-up featured fully completed interiors, including seats, monitors, grab rails, lighting, and other elements, creating a comprehensive representation of all areas of the new train. Special attention was given to spaces for wheelchairs and bicycles, ensuring accessibility, as well as to lighting design to enhance passenger comfort and overall experience.

The importance of the mock-up during project development was also that of validating ergonomics and feasibility for all elements, along with the possibility of operators to get a grasp of the new vehicles before start of production.
